We made two trips to Iraq in 2003. The first we took before the war, while Saddam was still in power. This photo was taken during that time. Baghdad was a very different place then, the streets were clean and safe and the restaurants were open, but you could feel the repression of the police state at every turn. We spent a lot our time during that trip trying to dodge the
attention of the secret police.
